FD 36524 · SAVAGE TOOELE RAILROAD COMPANY — ACQUISITION AND OPERATION EXEMPTION IN TOOELE COUNTY, UTAH — UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY

Comment EI-31432

Received or sent (printed as 12/10/2021)

Savage Tooele Rail should be required by the STB to complete an Environmental Assessment as there are significant environmental impacts associated with building this 12 mile rail line and connecting it to an inland "satellite" port facility. It will enable the development of 20 million square feet of warehouse space leading to thousands of new daily car and truck trips adding to the already out of attainment air quality. Most of the line will go through high functioning wetlands further endangering the Great Salt Lake ecosystem. Switcher engines, which are highly polluting will likely be involved in the operation of the rail. For these reasons and more the STB should require a complete Environmental Assessment.
