I'm an allied Tribal Member from the Red Lake Nation. The merger of these two huge railroad lines - Canadian Pacific (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS) is a danger to the White Earth Nation, with whom I feel deeply connected with. The CP/KCS merger is a danger to the environment and water in Minnesota - These types of surface transfers have the potential for massive damage to the earth and human life risk in communities, like White Earth, which will receive absolutely NO direct benefit from the increased transportation through their homelands. These types of projects require more than just an Environmental Impact Statement. They require MEANINGFUL consult and considerations with the tribal nations effected, and that consultation has not taken place. There is the potential for significant environmental impacts related to noise, traffic, safety, air quality, wildlife, plant habitats, and water, including streams and wetlands. That’s a high price for the White Earth Community and the state of Minnesota to pay for an already wealthy foreign company to boost their efficiencies and profits. This merger is a terrible idea for everyone from the local to a national levels- The White Earth Nation, the land, water and air of Minnesota, and the United States. This purchase endangers the U.S. ability to protect, and oversee transport in our country. The White Earth Reservation Business Committee opposes this merger and I stand with them as an ally. I oppose the Canadian Pacific (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS) merger as a tribal citizen, citizen of Minnesota, and a patriot of the United States.
