: Comments Regarding Merger of CP/KCS Docket No. 36500 ISSUES TRAFFIC – People drive over RR tracks to access homes and businesses. Increased traffic will have adverse effect on residents and businesses along the hwy 67 corridor from Camanche, IA past Davenport, IA. Travel time to school, work and other necessary travel will be negatively impacted by increased number of trains, and length as well. DANGER TO LIFE AND PROPERTY- In an emergency, vehicles may not be able to reach affected people or properties. Important note: there is a 50-bed nursing home just north of our 100+ residential neighborhood, and Arconic, manufacturer of aluminum products employing 13,000+ people. DANGER TO CHILDREN – Increase in traffic increases danger for children getting to and from school. Children have to cross RR tracks to catch the bus. The bus, then drops them off and they need to cross RR tracks to get home. Additionally, there are no RR crossing lights and no arm that comes down, as well as a turn along the tracks that obstructs view. NOISE POLLUTION - the increased amount of trains will increase the amount of noise pollution along the Sabula Iowa to Kansas City corridor. Sec. 1.3.2 of cp-kcsmergereis.com document reads noise pollution would be decreased because of a reduction in truck traffic. I beg to argue that the increase of 100s of RR cars a day will nullify reduction of 64,000 trucks/year. CARGO - What is being hauled and where is it going? I cannot find info on that. DERAILMENTS: Not mentioned and a danger in these populated areas. Recent derailment in 2022-Le Claire. IA. ACCOMMODATIONS – It’s stated if board authorizes proposed acquisition, applicant plans to make 25 capital improvements. However, no improvements list the most heavily affected areas between Sabula IA and Kansas City MO. This area is positioned to have over 100% increase (14.4 trains/day)in traffic and nothing is in place to help alleviate issues caused by the merger. (sec. 1.3.2)
