As a resident of the Houston area, I’m deeply concerned with air quality, noise pollution, and quality of life impacts to Harris County. I oppose this merger because anti-trust policy demands it. I oppose this merger because environmental common sense demands it. I oppose this merger because it’s clear it will be used to transport tar sands crude oil, and I oppose any expansion of dangerous fossil fuel extraction, especially given the impacts to Indigenous tribal land in Canada. Transportation of crude oil through historically polluted and disinvested communities, like those in Houston/Harris County, is racist and discriminatory. CP has already had four derailments this year! It is not a question of if a derailment will happen in our area, but when. I oppose this merger because I oppose pipelines. I oppose this merger because I want a livable future and I want my kids to have one too. Residents of Harris county area don’t want dangerous, noise-polluting, oil-carrying, monopolistic freight. We want to see our regulators do their job. Stop this merger. It’s bad for our air, our neighborhoods, and our future.
