I live in Davenport, IA across the highway from the CP railroad tracks. I have been a resident for 40 years, 2 yrs in my present home. We moved here because of the beautiful river view. Recently, while sitting on our patio, I cked the decibel reading of a passing locomotive with a decibel meter: The locomotive, as it passed, with no horn sounding, generated a reading of 8.3 decibels. It also produced a large amount of diesel smoke. For a city which was highlighted in Outside Magazine as one of the best River Towns in the US, it would be a shame to destroy the river front with 3X the train traffic and noise. To ride my bike from my home to the Farmers Market I cross the tracks 2 times in each direction. Davenport is attempting to expand and improve our river front, but the increased train traffic will cause irreparable harm to the purpose. I strongly oppose the merger.
