Decisions about rail infrastructure in the Western United States have important implications for indigenous sovereignty, the United States' climate future, and transportation. Allowing this merger to process undermines all three, violating indeginous decision making processes on their own land, locking in fossil freight transportation networks, and hardening the stranglehold of freight companies on long-haul rail lines that already struggle to accommodate Amtrak's limited passenger load. It is therefore in the interest of the United States and the indigenous nations with whom we have signed treaties to stop the CP/KCS acquisition from progressing.
