The Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern railroad merger poses a significant threat to residents of Davenport. If approved, train traffic will be increased by 300%. Trains already get in the way of everyday tasks. As a graduate student living off campus at St. Ambrose University, it will become increasingly difficult to make it to class on time and focus on academics while horns blare by. My concerns deepen as CP trains are already over 1.5 miles long, a number that will increase after the merger. Not only will everyday citizens be stuck behind these trains for an extended period of time, but so will emergency responders. I hope the Surface Transportation Board rejects this railroad merger based on how increased train traffic will disrupt the general well-being of residents along the rail line.
