To the Board: The only entity that benefits from this merger is CP, a Canadian, not American company. If moving crude oil products is the goal, use barges. More fuel efficient and hold double the amount a 100 car train can haul. What about life along this river. Towns, parks, wetlands and of course the Mississippi River. Please don’t dismiss derailments as non-consequential. Look at the YouTube video of 20 CP cars landing on the levee in LeClaire with only a small chemical leak. At least it happened in town and didn’t put 20 cars into the river. 100 or so quiet zone’s doesn’t help anyone who is not within that zone. Why can trains roar through towns at 55 miles an hour and cars need to go 25 , for reasons of safety. This is not the middle of empty fields where this train travels. Have any of you driven the Great River Road and seen what this encompasses and what this merger will significantly change forever. Please. Notice on this drive that the only landscape next to the tracks in many areas, is the river and what a spill will do to our environment. Please don’t make a decision for short term economic gain. There are other ways that don’t affect thousands of people and hundreds of towns. Please protect our river and don’t make this a pipeline because that is really what this is about. We have trains already and barges and trucks that don’t change or endanger our lives or livelihood. Please consider all aspects of this endeavor. Ellen Nelson LeClaire, Iowa
