As a student at St. Ambrose University, I am opposed to the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern railroad merger. The draft Environmental Impact Statement states that noise would be the most significant impact of the merger, yet fails to mention that 14 more trains a day will slow public safety response time, hinder railroad safety, and decrease quality of life. Iowa has ranked the third worst state for childhood rail safety and this merger will push Iowa to the worst state if approved. I ask that the Surface Transportation Board consider the threat this merger poses to safety and reject this merger.
