One implication of this Acquisition that may not be of heightened scrutiny comes directly from the Applicants stated purpose of the proposed acquisition. One purpose listed is that the proposed acquisition would generate environmental benefits by reducing truck transportation on highways in North America by more than 64,000.00 trucks annually. While I fully support environmental benefits, it should be a concern that reducing truck transportation in excess of 64,000.00 trucks will at the same time eliminate 64,000 peoples means to earn a living via commercial trucking. This cannot be justified by claiming the increased railways will provide more jobs because people should not be forced out of one occupation based upon a finding that some slots for a substantially different occupation may open up.
