The merger of the two railroads, with its resulting dramatic increase in rail traffic through the Quad Cities, is a mistake. Davenport has worked to make its riverfront a destination for tourists and residents alike; current rail traffic is disruptive to that goal; increased traffic will make such places at the Freight House intolerably loud with frequent high decibel train horns blasting. Additionally, the more frequent trains pose access issues in case of emergency to the areas on the river side of the tracks. Emergency vehicles unable to get through, etc. The noise is also disruptive to wildlife along the river.
