As a city council member for Princeton, Iowa, my responsibility is to lead my city in the right direction. The proposed CP-KCS merger will impair my city as the new traffic could decrease property values by around 18% and lead to adverse health conditions from the constant vibrations and rumblings. On top of that, Iowa ranks as the third-worst state for railroad safety; this will only worsen if the merger happens. If these companies do not address the dangers they are creating, they will forsake our community's well-being. The STB’s goal is to see the impact of this merger, so it should require these railroads to hold public, in-person forums to hear from our community.
