I live 1 block from the railway. The current level of trains and the horn noise is very loud and frequently wakes members of my family. Increased train noise would decrease my home value due to the noise pollution. There are already instances of trains stopping and blocking traffic to the river front since they are longer than our town. When you are down by the river you are trapped for hours sometimes. It is terrifying to think that in an emergency EMS, police or fire could not get to us. The only restaurants in town are also by the river. We also have a local beach that is only accessible by the river. Of which emergency responses would be unable to get through. The homes in Princeton are very close to the tracks, mere feet. Increased traffic would increase the risk of derailments. And that would cause significant loss of life without warning to occupants. A derailment that caused a spill of oil or potentially hazardous materials would end up directly in the Mississippi River and could cause catastrophic consequences far further reaching downstream being carried by the river. I urge you to not to allow this merger to move forward and not risk the health and safety of our wonderful river town and the amazing ecosystem on the upper Mississippi River.
