This is the latest. Happened Wed. June 1. At least you can get the coal out of the river for the most part. The coal cars are normally filled to the top and you can see, so how much one car holds.....The DNR is on it. LANSING, Iowa (Iowa's News Now) — A Canadian Pacific train derailed in northeast Iowa on Wednesday, spilling coal into the Mississippi River. The train derailed around 6:40 in the morning according to the Iowa Department of Natural resources. Ten coal cars derailed, but only one tipped coal into the river. An unknown amount of coal spilled about 4 miles south of Lansing, just south of the Lansing power plant.
