As an environmental organization in Lake County, IL, we are opposed to the CP and KCS merger, and we are also opposed to a CN and KCS merger. This is a heavily populated area. The scope of disaster that would ensue in the event of a derailment of crude oil or other flammable/explosive/poisonous cargo is unspeakable. Plus the other risks such as coal particles blowing off open top cars, noise pollution, ground shaking risks to infrastructure are a concern. Finally as residents of the area, we object to decreasing our property values and increasing traffic headaches. Thank you.
