The proposed railroads merger between Kansas City Southern and Canadian Pacific creates a $31 billion-dollar amount of concern for me. This deal hinders Missourians from doing their daily tasks and activities, while resulting in safety concerns across the state. Missourians are will see more trains going through their towns every day, and these trains are longer than the previous trains. The safety of Missouri citizens should be the focus of everyone studying this merger and with 14.4 more trains going through towns each day across the state and an increased length from 8,285 feet to upwards of 13,000, Missourians have another impact on their qualify of life. While kids’ safety is a parent's concern, kids' concerns are focused on school and their daily activities. Children don’t have the patience to wait 30 minutes for a train while walking across train tracks and will attempt to beat the train resulting in their safety being compromised. Despite the acquisition of Kansas City Southern by Canadian Pacific, they have done little to mitigate the concerns of citizens through this merger. This multi-billion-dollar merger is not serving the people of Missouri, but rather inconveniencing them and putting our safety in jeopardy.
