I am a longtime resident of Missouri and understand the impact the rail industry has on my community. I have experienced the traffic delays that go hand-in-hand with this region serving as a “choke point” for rail traffic. I have tolerated the trains blaring their horns while enjoying outdoor concerts or parks. As someone who grew up here, these things are part of the fabric of everyday life. However, plans to triple the number of daily trains by merging lines have me very worried. We have our limits, and triple the noise, vibration, and congestion is too much to ask us. This will have a decidedly negative impact on the economy and plans for future growth. In the interest of residents like myself, I implore the STB to look at the economic and social ramifications of this merger before deciding on approval.
