I'm from Franklin Park and we're known for our many trains. Back when I was a student and for many students across the tracks from the high school and middle schools, getting to school on time was always a struggle, not because we were running late (I would actually be thirty minutes early), but because of the long slow-moving trains with no consistent schedule. While there was an overpass that allowed a twenty minute detour, only a minority of the commuters would actually take this trip because as previously mentioned, it was always inconsistent, so I believe they had the mindset that there's a chance the train could be over in five minutes, saving them time from the detour. It is not uncommon for students, even top students, to show up an hour late and miss an entire class. This is with a "convenient" detour option in my hometown. And not only this. For the students walking, especially in the cold, it became habit to just jump over between the train cars that have slowed down enough or stopped. Fortunately, police enforcement has discouraged this act, but that does not solve the issue of the walkers' need to get to school. In regard to the Itasca community, this merger could negatively influence their smaller economy to a recession especially with its impact on home values, homeowner wealth, and overall consumer confidence.
