The impact this project would have on our town could be devastating. Itasca is split in half by the railroad tracks. Both the fire and police station are on the South side of town. By increasing the number of freight trains, it would block fire, police, and EMS from being able to access the North side of town, which also is home to 2/3 of our public schools. I have witnessed an ambulance having to wait for a Metra train to pass by until it can cross over to reach the North side of town and I’ve thought about the lost valuable minutes that causes. A freight train can be even more damaging with the large increase of wait time, and the increase in the frequency. We do not have any other way to reach the North side of town without passing over the train tracks. Furthermore, this would backup traffic on Irving Park Road. In relation to schools- this would impact the bus system as well as getting to and from schools in a timely manner whether it be by car or children walking to/from school. This project would impact our small town greatly in a negative way. (Received via project website)
