I strongly oppose the proposed merger to increase freight way traffic on the Milwaukee West line. The line connects the nearby suburbs to each other and specific to Itasca runs through the center of town. The EMS services reside South of the line and increasing the freight traffic would cause a certain divide in this very small town and hinder EMS services to the North side of town on a regular basis as well as direct through-fare to the nearest hospital. As life-long resident of towns along the Milwaukee Line and I am very familiar with the long wait times of freight trains into and out of the yard for years prior to the York Rd renovation. The years living in the nearby communities supply historical data of how traffic and crossing over tracks running this type of freight-line severely impacts traffic flow and how adversely it is affected. The idea of waiting additional time to have EMS respond in any emergency situation due to a freight-train can mean the difference of life and death or severe disabilty when time is of the essence. My background as an ICU RN in a local hospital provides countless stories of good and adverse outcomes based on how fast EMS services are activated and on on-site to emergent situations. I strongly oppose this merger increasing the freight-train traffic throughout the region Milwaukee West runs. (Received via project website)
