As County Engineer for Appanoose County, Iowa (southern most on the CP in the state), I am concerned about the current status of crossings within our County and the impact additional traffic will have on said crossings. We have several at grade crossings that need adjustments in the approaches. We have three crossings over our roads that are low and at least one of those that has abutments very poor condition. We recently were forced to close a Canadian Pacific owned bridge (carrying our vehicle traffic) that is in danger of structural failure. While we have not had time to work out a replacement plan and process, I am concerned that growth on the line will be at County expense in any replacement structures and that the facilities in our area are not sufficient for additional rail traffic. I would like assurances that the railroad will provide necessary upgrades for the increased traffic and current shortcomings. (Received via project website)
