No, no and NO! This request from the OEA to allow more freight transport through our village is definitely not in the Village’s best interest at all. The village is a small community that already has too much train traffic and noise from trains that impacts the quality of life and emergency services of which we have very little and share with other communities. We are going to be swallowed by big corporate interests! What don’t these groups of businesses understand about the size and scope of the projects that they propose to build in a small town? We just went through a harrowing 2 years of explaining to Haymarket that our small town’s fire and ambulance services cannot afford the economic impact of a large non profit facility that services the needs of Opioid victims. Our residents and those victims will both suffer if this is allowed by the courts. Now Haymarket is suing the town! So to add more congestion of train crossings , substantial disruptions of emergency services, added noise and air pollution, the added dangers of travelers crossing the rails, the time limitations imposed by train delays and the decrease in market values of homes near the tracks are not what Itasca needs or wants. So I say no to this proposal. Thank you. (Received via project website)
