I strongly oppose the proposed increased freight train traffic thru Itasca for the following reasons: 1.). These trains blocking our roadways will greatly hinder ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks ability to quickly respond to emergencies at schools, residences and roads. It will also limit their ability to transport patients to hospitals for life saving care. 2.). These additional trains will reduce air quality for my family at home, and kids at school and playing sports outside. 3.). These additional trains will increase the likelihood of train/vehicle/pedestrian incidents in Itasca and surrounding towns. 4.). These additional trains will slow down commuter train times to/from Chicago. 5.). These additional trains will create a noise nuisance for my family at home, at school, at church, playing sports, at the library, at the Itasca Nature Center, etc. 6.). These additional trains will create traffic jams on already busy roads (some of which are neighborhood streets) that are not large enough to support the increased, lengthy backups.
