The Bensenville Chamber of Commerce, comprised of over 150 businesses and organizations throughout the Village of Bensenville, Illinois, has numerous concerns with the proposed CP/KCS merger. As Chamber President, I am submitting this comment on the organization's behalf. According to the data compiled on the interactive map located on the project’s EIS website, Bensenville’s rail line, which runs through the heart of the downtown business district, is expected to experience an estimated 8 more trains per day than what our community would without the merger. This increased freight traffic has the potential to cause vehicular traffic congestion at grade crossings, heavily impacting Bensenville’s economic spheres. Additional data regarding traffic counts and grade crossing delays is needed in order for the STB to adequately review CP’s requested acquisition of KCS. These projections should be both short- and long-terms, a minimum of 10 years.
