(printed as 6/24/2006)CommentEI-2354James E. SniderIn Reference to the Union Pacific proposal FD-34672. AS I'am sure you all know Union Pacific is now using a Northern route, which by-passes densley populated ares. Even when a crossing is blocked on the Northern route in every case there is another way in our out, and the families on both sides of the tracks could still get out in the case of emergency or get an emergency vehicle in. I don't understand why Union Pacific would even want to go the southern route when so many lives would be imperiled. A route where so many homes and even whole towns could be blocked in or out by just one train. Please consider also that this proposal does not bring any economic benefits to this area-no additional jobs, no reduced shipping rates, no additional taxes, etc. It will simply be a passageway for through train traffic. Union Pacific already has 40% of the Northern route doubled tracked, and could double track the remaning 60% (which is 24 miles). If they would do this the impact to the public's health and saftey would be minimal. Thank You for allowing me to copmment on this matter Jim SniderChaffee, Mo.

(printed as 6/13/2006)CommentEI-2310David and Susan DieboldIn regards to the Union Pacific wanting to traffic more trains through the Sikeston-Rockview route, this would affect Oran, Mo, our home town. I realize that trains are a necesary means of transport for our area. With that in mind, we are highly concerned about the amount of traffic that will increase in our small town of a little over 1,000 people. We have three railroad track crossings in our small town and people live really close to them. An increase in traffic would be a major interuption in their everyday lives. My sister and brother both live very close to the tracks and have small children. The train horns are very very loud in our town and very disruptive at night when people are sleeping. We are very much against the increased traffic in our area. I do know that the system is already running many engines on the tracks to give the sense that we already run a lot of trains in that area". An engine is not the same as a full train. Full trains will create many delays for people trying to get to work, home from work, fire engines and other emergency vehicles trying to get to disasters. Please do not allow this to happen. If a member of our family was in need of emergency assistance, I would be completely upset and would seek resitution for damages. I lived on the other side of tracks from the main town when I was little and experienced many, many delays from stopped trains and trains passing by. I do not like the delays that trains create. Please keep the trains running the way they are. The change would not bring any jobs or any other benefits to our area."oran, missouri

(printed as 7/22/2005)CommentEI-1593Kristina NationRegarding docket #34672 Increasing railroad trains on the Union Pacific I strongly oppose the Union Pacific Railroad increasing the number of trains between Rockview, MO and Dexter, MO. They already cause people to wait and be late for work and other business appointments by stopping on the crossings for longer than a half hour. It is very frustrating to have to wait that long to cross a couple sets of tracks. The other choice would be to go several miles around and all the way back to town to get to your destination. Emergency vehicles have had to contact the railroad to get to cross the tracks to attend to the problem. This could create a deadly situation if there were more trains going through town. Then there is the noise factor. Train whistles, engines roaring, squealing wheels, and the boxcars clanking together when they stop or start moving all have a higher decibal reading than is tolerable. Smoke and exhaust from the fuels the engines use, is a very strong pollutant, not to mention if there are other chemicals and vapors escaping the tank cars. It worries me to wonder what other chemicals they carry that I cannot smell as noticeably. I have a young child and I hope this would not harm him as we live a block over from the tracks. If more trains are allowed to go through, then there is more pollution and noise. Please keep this in mind when you evaluate the situation. Do not allow an already out-of- control problem to get much worse. Kristina NationChaffee, MO

(printed as 7/22/2005)CommentEI-1592John NationDocket # 34672 Union Pacific Railroad proposal to increase train traffic from Rockview, MO to Dexter, MO I want to register my complaint about the Union Pacific Railroad wanting to run more trains through Chaffee. I cannot get across the tracks with the number of trains now. They block the two crossings in town for more than theie allotted fifteen minutes. Sometimes there will be two going in opposite directions, causing further delays. This is very trying when I have to be at work at a certain time. Then there is the element of an emergency situation. Ambulances, fire engines, police cannot get to a certain place if the trains are blocking the crossings. This has happened in the past several times. More trains will only add to the problem. The noises they make when they go by is very loud and annoying. The wheels squeak, the motor in the engines roar loudly, and the whistles can be heard across town. There would never be any peace if more trains were running through. In the past, there have been trains with chemicals and strong-smelling vapors leaking out causing concern about poisonous fumes. If an accident or derailment happened anywhere along the route, it would affect a lot of people. Then there is the chance they would be blocked by a train in order to save themselves or to help others. It is bad enough as it is now. If the railroad cannot take care of the problems it has created now, then adding more trains is just adding more fuel to the flames. NO!!! I don't want any more trains running through Chaffee! (printed as 7/22/2005)CommentEI-1591Richard NationRegarding docket number 34672, the Union Pacific Railroad wanting to increase rail traffic from Rockview, MO to Dexter, MO: I firmly oppose the proposal. I live about one block from the railroad tracks and it is nearly impossible to cross either of the crossings, with the trains that are now using them. I have had to go several miles around, just to get to town, which is a couple blocks from my house. The trains will tie up the crossings for some thirty to forty-five minutes, if not longer at times. Sometimes, they will have a train going in both directions and you have to sit and wait for both of them to clear the tracks before you can go. This is a serious threat to emergency vehicles and for safety reasons. If more trains are run through, we would not be able to get across for longer periods of time. People all over town are always complaining about having to wait quite awhile for these trains to leave, for them to cross from one side of town to the other. The sounds of the whistles and screeching sound of the wheels on the tracks are unnerving to say the least. There would be a lot more noise with the humming of the engines, whistles, and squeaking and clanking of the wheels if more traffic is allowed, damaging to nerves as well as hearing. There have been several times in the past when chemicals and foul odors were leaking out of the tank cars. This is also a hazard to our health and well-being. With more trains and more tanks, there is more chance for a derailment or spill right here in the middle of town, endangering more lives. An accident of this type could easily wipe out neighborhoods, for there would be considerable delay in getting help for victims, or authorities to try to control the escape of poisonous gases. Please do not give the railroads the right to run over the townspeople, and their right to live a life free of worry and delays more than what we have at the present time. More train traffic will only add to our concerns and problems. Sincerely, Richard NationChaffee, MO

(printed as 7/22/2005)CommentEI-1590D. NationRegarding the proprosal by Union Pacific Railroad to increase train traffic from Rockview, MO to Dexter, MO (docket # 34672): I strongly feel this is a very horrible nightmare" for citizens in the city of Chaffee, MO. There already are too many trains stopping for long periods of time, closing down two sets of crossings in town. Emergency vehicles cannot cross to the other side of town, nor could a patient get to medical personnel if needed. There is so much loud "squealing" noises on some of the trains, it is very annoying to hear such loud noise pollution. There was a refrigeration car that was very loud and annoying, setting on the tracks close to my residence until the early morning hours. The motor was so loud, it seemed like it was right outside my door. Another problem is the whistles blowing so loud at railroad crossings, with an increase in traffic flow, more peace disturbances go on. I live very close to the tracks here in Chaffee. Others have small children who could have their hearing impaired by these loud noises; heard many more times in a day if train traffic is allowed to increase. I have personally been late for work and appointments countless times, and had to go several miles out of the way to get to the opposite side of town. Many more trains would create more aggravation for people going to work. There used to be a fear of dangerous hobos in the past few years, but now the latest danger would be chemical odors and poisonous fumes escaping from a leaking tank car. I can remember one night in particular, that I left my windows open and was awakened by a strong smell of chemicals. After I closed my windows, shortly thereafter the train moved on and the smell was gone. I have breathing problems, and cannot tolerate breathing chemical or gaseous fumes. I want to express my very strong opposition to this proposal, and hope you will give some very serious thought to helping me and the many other people in our community, in denying the railroad an opportunity to make our existence even more alarmingly dangerous and unsafe by increasing rail traffic through our town and this area. Thank you for your interest and attention in this matter."Chaffee, MO

(printed as 7/19/2005)CommentEI-1588Homeowners of RockviewI have a complaint about the Rail Road trying to increase the traffic they have on the tracks going through Rockview Missouri. We ALREADY wait a half an hour to get home each day after work, they are ALREADY taking up both entrances/tracks to Rockview so that MEDICAL PERSONNEL also have to wait. We are ALREADY driving four miles out of our way if our children start getting antsy and refuse to wait quietly while the train(s) pass. I am sick to death of them taking up so much time out of our lives already on the way to work, and home from work, running to the store takes an hour when we have to wait, and now thier asking to INCREASE THE FLOW OF TRAINS?!?! Please take a good long look at how they are already disrupting the lives of homeowners, and AMBULANCES AND POLICE OFFICERS during an emergency, and SAY NO when they ask for an exemption to increase the flow by using another track. One day an AMBULANCE is going to need to enter Rockview, both tracks will be taken up again, and the result will prove fatal. I will be keeping a copy of this email, so that I can have an 'I told you so' because i know what is going to happen when they increase the flow, and i want documentation supporting my warning. What about Sikeston and Dexter, where they are used to very little train traffic, what will happen to them????????? This is affecting so many people, none of it positive. NONE OF IT!! Please, please, dont let them take up any more of our time then they already have.Jennifer Camp · Chaffee (Rockview area), MO
