I live about 150 feet from the train line that goes to Coos Bay. Running coal long, uncovered coal trains will adversely effect us in many ways. Not only will our property values be hurt, and our health and crops be in danger, we will also be cut off for up to 20 minutes every time a train is going. Our only outlet is blocked by the train tracks, and with such long trains (they can only go 10 miles per hour) we will not be able to leave, and also emergency vehicles will not be able to enter. The coal trains will over-load the rail system so badly, according to a report this summer, that normal rail traffic will be delayed and the ability of the companies relying on rail transport to ship their goods. It is also reported that many companies who normally ship out of Oregon or Washington ports will opt to ship out of Canada because of long delays on our rail lines. This will cost us jobs. Aside from all that, our health, property values, and peace of mind will be ruined by the constant coal trains. Multiply our property and lives by thousands along the rail line, and you have catastrophic damages to Oregon home owners. Please don't allow this to ruin our beautiful state, especially when all the profit is not even staying in the state. Lynn Anderson
