I support a “no action” alternative for the Tongue River railroad because it is a terrible abuse of eminent domain and the environmental impacts of the mines and railroad are not justified. Taking land for the benefit of one company that will sell its product to Asia was not the intended us of eminent domain. The small number of jobs created by the mines and railroad do not justify taking of private property nor do they justify the environmental impact the mines and railroad will have at the local and international level. A recent article in the local paper documented serious concern the DEQ had about the environmental impact that proposed expansion of coal mines in Canada would have on water quality and the environment in the US. These concerns must also be relevant to the mines and railroad in MT.
