Tongue River Railroad - My family opposes. Montana's long term sustainable future is agriculture in the eastern part of the state. Yes, we are blessed with abundant coal reserves which when removed, leave a virtual wasteland. The awesome hydrologoic systems put in place will be no longer viable. And the coal is not being extracted to sustain Montanans or even the nation, but an out of control economic sustem in the near East that is not sustainable. As knowledgeable citizens of this country do we not understand the value of water? There is only so much and we are fortunate to have the purest in the nation. Siting the Tongue River Railroad up a valley that sustains a good agricultural base will be economically disastrous, shortsighted, costly to residents of the area andf environmentally distructive. Wise leaders would not condone such a thing. Hundreds of hours of testimony, hundreds of hours of research has been done on this proposal for many years. All point to the wastefulness of it. We hope you will choose the no action alternative.
