Hi, I am from Montreal, Canada and I have lived in Jersey City since May 2023. My apartment is on 10th St. which is very close to the Harsimus Line Embankment. I think the Embankment is an important environmental resource as well as a historic one for the people of Jersey City. As an environmental resource, the Embankment is an urban forrest that generates oxygen and captures pollutants, contributes to biodiversity in the city and captures rain water that would otherwise flood the adjacent neighbourhoods during storms (like we had last week). The Embankment is especially important to the city infrastructure going forward as the climate emergency will exert more pressure on Jersey City's drainage systems. As a historical resource, the Embankment is living testimony to Jersey City's industrial past and is a landmark that is part of the citizens' personal past. It has become a friend to me as I walk my dogs along it every morning and evening and I look at the weathered stones and think about all the people that built it. Finally, I think it would be a gross injustice to the people of Jersey City and a gross dereliction of duty on the part of the STB to grant the abandonment of the Harsimus Branch to Conrail after it sold the Harsimus Branch illegally. The Harsimus Branch and Embankment need to be protected for future generations. Thank you, Smaranda Grajdieru
