AB 167 (Sub-No. 1189X) · CONSOLIDATED RAIL CORPORATION--ABANDONMENT EXEMPTION--IN HUDSON COUNTY, N.J.

Comment EI-33067

Received or sent (printed as 9/30/2023)

Allowing Conrail to abandon the Sixth Street Embankment in downtown Jersey City, without very strong requirements that it ultimately be transferred to the City of Jersey City for preservation and development as a community park, would open it up to intense pressures from real estate interests and lead to its destruction. It is needed by the community for its recreational and ecological benefits, as well as its role in mitigating the negative effects of climate change.
