I lived in Jersey City from 2000-2003, and was an active member in the Van Vorst Park Assn., having also designed several of the still existent public gardens in the Park. As a landscape designer, I was one of the first Jersey City professionals to see the unique potential in the embankment for public usage. It would be a great error to allow development in this area and fail to preserve this unique historic landscape.I'm requesting that this land immediately be preserved as a community park area and that connecting parkways be established to interconnect this historic area with pedestrian and bikeways. Please think creatively and see the potential for a distinct design opportunity that could serve the City in much more valuable ways than a development.
