The plan to demolish the embankment is extremely shortsighted and will be very detrimental to the surrounding community. Demolition would not only destroy a piece of Jersey City's history, it would contaminate the air and water, damage neighborhood buildings, and cause immense annoyance and inconvenience for those living in the vicinity and those who have to pass through the area. We could also lose the perfect opportunity for a light rail link between Secaucus and the waterfront, and for a light freight corridor. In short, abandonment of the Harsimus Branch and demolition of the Embankment would be an unmitigated disaster for the community, and we need to perform a full study of what the effects would be before doing anything damaging and irreversible.
