AB 167 (Sub-No. 1189X) · CONSOLIDATED RAIL CORPORATION--ABANDONMENT EXEMPTION--IN HUDSON COUNTY, N.J.

Comment EI-17506

Received or sent (printed as 4/24/2009)

Our community needs a full study of the effects that abandonment of the Harsimus Branch, and demolition of the Embankment, will have on our community and city. The demolition of such a huge structure, located in the heart of the family residences of Jersey City and very near several schools, would mean months- (or years-) long contamination of the air and streets of our neighborhood. This structure has the potential to be a point of pride in the community and could increase the value of the area if it were to be turned into a public park (just look at what the High Line in Chelsea is doing to the neighborhood!). Before abandonment and demolition take place, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) should be prepared to fully understand what the best course of action would be.
