The Embankment of downtown Jersey City, NJ, is a one-of-a-kind urban artifact in the entire New York City metropolitan area and should be preserved as an integral part of the area's history. A remnant of the days when the Jersey City Hudson River shoreline was a critical transportation hub, especially for shipping of goods but also transport of passengers, the Embankment has sat abandoned for decades. A full environmental study should be commissioned regarding it's preservation, followed by a public ideas competition for its adaptive reuse. The shoreline of both sides of the Hudson has been, and continues to be, developed as a vital public recreation area; the development of the Embankment as a linear park feeding the Hudson's esplanade would perfectly echo the way it used to suply and receive goods from the same shore.
