The Hamilton Park and Harsimus Cove neighborhoods need a full study of the effects that abandonment of the Harsimus Branch, and demolition of the Embankment, will have on our community and city. The impact on our community will be devastating if these plans go through. In addition to a marked decline in air quality and an increase in dust, noise and vibrations, demolition will pose a grave threat to the historic districts of Hamilton Park and Harsimus Cove. Removal of the stone blocks will cause damage and the loss of buildings on two sides for one half mile. Parts of the embankment are within inches of historic structures. Preserving the embankment as it is will not only save the historic district and prevent the construction of buildings that do not fit with the existing architecture, it will provide additional green space, preserve our ecosystem as a habitat corridor, provide a possible future light rail and ease congestion in a heavily urban setting.
