We require a full environmental impact study on the abandonment of the Harsimus Branch and demolition of the Embankment. Our most immediate concern is the loss of ground which absorbs rain and run off. Jersey City sits on a flood plain and currently the downtown section along Jersey Ave where the embankment crosses suffers from significant flooding after moderate rain requiring home owners to pump water from their basements. Additionally, we are concerned flood insurance rates will increase should more damage claims be filed in this area after the loss of the Embankment
