As a representative of this area serving as a councilman in Jersey City, I can attest to not only the need of a complete and thorough study, but also the long term dedication that residents throughout the whole city have given to the preservation of this space. I have been floored by their out spoken determination, and well rounded knowledge of the Harsimus corridor. There is a history of issues that will be impacted by any decision rendered from the STB including issues that effect open space, transportation access, potential air/ground contaminants, and flooding. Furthermore, the area in question is located between two historic districts with many residences that were built more than 100 years ago is located in proximity of 4 schools and 3 elder care facilities . As the nation moves forward in green initiatives and planning, since the City administration, elected representatives, and residents are asking for this study in such great numbers, this only makes sense to complete the study to the fullest extent.
