Comment EI-17212

Received or sent (printed as 4/7/2009)

There are dozens of homes in the Historic Districts adjacent to the Embankment which were built in the mid nineteenth century before the re-introduction of cement mortar. The homes, including mine, arebcomposed of bricks held together with mortar composed of lime and sand. These masonry buildings are very fragile and the vibration from the demolition of thecEmbankment is highly likely to damage them irreparably. If the demolition goes forward the developer should be required to hold the adjacent homeowners harmless. This would mean that the developer should be required to photographically document the exterior walls of the adjacent buildings within 500 feet of any demolition and provide a security deposit and an insurance policy sufficient to repair many millions of dollars of expected damage to irreplaceable historic buildings.
