I want a full and fact-based Environmental Impact Study of the entire Harsimus Branch located in Jersey City. This is an open space that is rich and unique in its history. As a professional archivist I have dealt with preservation issues throughout New Jersey. I strongly believe that not everything needs to be preserved. This is why I do not make the decision to preserve the Harsimus Branch lightly, but I wholly support a full study of this open space as this is the only way to allow the people of Jersey City to make an informed decision on how the little available open space is treated. As a community activist for all of Jersey City and as a resident and leader of the Hilltop Neighborhood Association, I again reiterate the need for this study. This open space is not in our neighborhood, but our city government is telling us that included in their plans to redevelop Journal Square, where our neighborhood is located, is to link the huge planned open green space in the square to the Harsimus Branch. Our community has worked with the City government in good faith with the belief that this open space be the center piece of what will be a very disruptive redevelopment project. I am asking for myself, my family, and for my community that that the full environmental impact study be conducted. Thank you for your attention in this matter.
