Comment EI-17139

Received or sent (printed as 4/7/2009)

I am writing this for two main reasons: 1. As a physician I am very concerned about demolishing the railroad embankment in downtwon Jersey City. There is a strong potential for release of lead and chromium into the environment. That section of the city is densely populated, and may young children live there. I myself have two young children and we live about 5 blocks away. 2. As a resident of the city, I would be very saddened to see the opportunity to make the embankment into a park squandered. There is a lack of park space in downtown, and the embankment could be a good connection between Harsimus Cove and the waterfront. In 50 years, the residents could thank us for protecting and enriching this space, or blame us for wasting such a great opportunity on more condos.
