AB 167 (Sub-No. 1189X) · CONSOLIDATED RAIL CORPORATION--ABANDONMENT EXEMPTION--IN HUDSON COUNTY, N.J.

Comment EI-17122

Received or sent (printed as 4/6/2009)

I am writing to support a full environmental study of the entire Hartimus Branch. Conrail has neglected this site for many years and now continues to deny the interests of the neighborhoods affected by these structures. Legal abandonment will result in demolition of a potential extraordinary environmental, cultural and recreational resource unequaled in our urban setting. Demolition will also result in severe problems with dust, flooding, over development and loss of transportation options. A decision for Conrail's abandonment, and therefor for demolition, will signal government's cynical arrogance toward the democratic process which so many individuals and groups have participated in on the local and state level in order to save and revive these structures. Thank you.
