Over two years ago, my husband and I decided to move from NYC to NJ. Wanting to start a family, we had the option to move anywhere – from Montclair and the Oranges, to Summit and Short Hills. After a long search we decided to buy a brownstone right across from the Embankment. The integrity, beauty, and history of the Embankment that we would come to look at each day played no small part in our decision to buy in Jersey City. And I am confident our neighbors would echo my sentiment. The Embankment plays a role in our life each day. Every morning my young daughter and I look out her bedroom window to talk about the trees and the flowers that grow so vibrantly atop the Enbankment, and she thrills at the idea of the history of this amazing structure. And each night, after a long day in the city, we walk our dogs up and down the Embankment, letting them sniff and explore in peace. I strongly encourage the interested parties to conduct an environmental survey of the Enbankment and it’s surrounding areas. The demolition of this majestic structure will severely damage the integrity of the Hamilton Park area as a historic district. Please allow this neighborhood to continue to enjoy this great piece of history, and allow our children, and future generations to enjoy it, and the beautiful plants, trees, and flowers it brings into our view everyday.
