As a resident of Jersey City's historic downtown area -- which includes the 'embankment' structure in question -- I believe the STB should authorize an Environmental Impact Statement. It is clear that abandonment will almost immediately lead to demolition, the effects of which would be devastating to my neighborhood. I am most concerned about the resulting air quality and the inevitable release of dust and contaminants to an area that includes tens of thousands of residents, numerous grammar and high schools, elder care facilities, athletic fields and parks.
