I am writing about the need for an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Embankment. I am urging you to authorize the Statement as soon as possible so that the Embankment is not abandonded and demolished. The proposed action will significantly affect the quality of the human environment in the area surrounding the Embankment, and will have impacts well beyond the local neighborhoods including on New Jersey families, neighborhoods, landmarks, and historic districts. An Environmental Impact statement is strongly needed. If even part of the Embankment is abandoned, Jersey City will see all significant impacts of demolition, including bad air quality, dust, release of contaminants, degradation of water quality, heavy traffic through fragile historic districts and possible damage to buildings, removal of a cultural resources, habitat destruction and possibly flooding. Don’t allow this to happen – authorize an Environmental Impact Statement for the Embankment.
