To whom it may concern: It is of great concern to me that there is no planned environmental impact study planned for the removal of the 6th Street Embankment. Knowing of Jersey City's long standing environmental problems (chromium deposits, creosote, etc), it is unacceptable to the local community that a four story tall industrial structure would be dismantled without close scrutiny. Considering that the landmark GE case of mercury poisoning took place in the neighborhood to the north, it seems that greater care should be exercised in the repurposing of industrial sites in this area. The Sixth street embankment stands less than 50 feet from residential homes on both sides for its' entire length. There are schools, senior residences, day care centers and churches directly next to the structure. Certainly this historic structure is a serious demolition hazard to the neighborhood. Please do not allow the sale and further development of the site to proceed without an environmental impact statement.
