Please require Conrail to officially abandon the railroad embankment in downtown Jersey City, and prepare an environmental impact study before selling it. It is incorrect to assume that just because it exists within a heavily urbanized area, that there is no natural value involved. As a resident of the Jersey City for over 25 years, I know that a wide variety of birds and mammals still manage to survive here and their numbers increase when natural areas are kept intact. The embankment, just like the JC Heights Reservoir #3, are de facto nature preserves due to years of abandonment and neglect. They harbor many insects, plants, and even mammals. Open space is sorely needed by the human population as well. And if we are to move to being green," let's start with where it already exists. Please consider the views of the citizens of the city. Thank you."
