To start, I would like to request that an Environmental Impact Statement be authorized for the Embankment. The land surrounding it at Newport and Shoprite plaza was significantly toxic for decades and there isn't any reason to think otherwise of the embankment. Having said that, I wish for the embankment to be all or partially demolished. It's an eyesore with little historical relevance. While I do not support some of the current plans that call for high-rise condos, I am very much in favor of smaller buildings, businesses and townhouses. I would be happy to see a park in it's place, but not an elevated park, as that would be a waste of money building the ramps, fencing and/or bridges and maintaining them. It's too narrow to be much more than a jogging path, so using up six half-blocks worth of land seems beyond wasteful. I would also like to say I'm fine with it being used as a Light Rail link to Journal Square or Secaucus should a feasible plan be worked out to allow this.
