I now live in Madrid , Spain but I have spent time in Jersey City a few blocks from the landmarked Embankment along 6th Street . I can tell you when I was there homes were routinely flooded along 6th Street during heavy rains, even with the huge Embankment right across the street to absorb the rain fall. I cannot imagine what kind of flooding people will have to deal with if the Embankment is taken down and replaced by housing. If you had sent anyone to visit the area and talk to people from the city you would know how serious a problem this is. The city has really old sewers that are on the verge of collapse all over the downtown. The Embankment does a lot to relieve that so removing it will have serious consequences. STB needs to do a full EIS to understand the how this will effect the residents of downtown Jersey City.
