I am writing to ask you the Surface Transportation Board to please authorize an Environmental Impact Statement on the Harsimus Branch Embankment before abandonment causes severe adverse effects to Jersey City historic districts, landmarks, neighborhoods, and families. Abandonment will lead directly to demolition, which will have devastating affects on the environment and surrounding community: impairing air and water quality, endangering historic buildings, destroying wildlife habitats, reducing transportation options, and potentially leading to flooding and other immediate physical crises.
