Abandonment of the spur will lead to the demolition of the underlying embankment, since developers are interested in the site and are seeking demolition permits. I urge you strongly to authorize an Environmental Impact Statement! Demolition of this very large structure will seriously and negatively affect the neighborhood and the city in many ways. Damage to neighboring buildings, dust, noise, and vibration will result. Destruction of what has become a wonderful habitat for birds and other wildlife is clearly an environmental issue. And eliminating a potential corridor for light rail means more automobile traffic, with all the consequences we know so well. So an Environmental Impact Statement is clearly called for. Thank you for your serious consideration of this concern.
